A defibrillator is located just inside the entrance door of Garrigill Village Hall which has 24 hour access. If you suspect someone is having a heart attack, ask at Garrigill House (opposite the Hall) for the box code or phone 999 for emergency help and ask for the code for opening the defibrillator box. You will need to give the village name ("Garrigill") and the village hall postcode CA9 3DS. If possible, send someone for the defibrillator whilst you stay with the person in case CPR is needed.


DOCTORS
The Alston Medical Practice, The Surgery, Cottage Hospital, Alston CA9 3QX tel: 381214  Open weekdays 8.30am to 6.30pm (4.30pm Tuesdays and Thursdays). Closed Saturday, Sunday and Thursday lunchtimes 12.30 to 1.30pm. For out of hours help, try phoning the surgery who may direct you to an out-of-hours service or phone the NHS on 111 who "will assess your needs safely and effectively and direct you to the right NHS service."

HOSPITALS
The nurse-led treatment services at Alston Community Hospital have been discontinued. Minor injuries are now treated at Alston Medical Practice.
The Urgent Care Centre at Hexham General Hospital, Corbridge Road, Hexham NE46 1QJ (28 miles from Garrigill) tel: 655388 provides treatment for minor injuries and less serious conditions between 8am and 10pm.
For 24 hour accident and emergency:

POLICE (non-emergency)
Alston Police Station at Townhead has no public reception. If you wish to see an officer there, telephone 101 to make an appointment. To contact the local Rural Police Community Support Officer, phone 101 then extension 2 then 45336. Brampton Police Station, Longtown Road, Brampton, CA8 1SJ and Penrith Police Station, Hunter Lane, Penrith are open from 9am until 1pm Monday to Saturday: tel: 101.
