Fire Precautions for Events

If you are expecting more than 30 persons to attend your event in the village hall, you are obliged to designate yourself or another responsible person as 'Fire Warden'. The hall's maximum capacity of 100 persons must not be exceeded.

As Fire Warden you must ensure that:

before the event

  • access to the fire doors is not blocked, inside or out.

  • the extinguishers are in the correct positions and you know how to use them.

  • kitchen and bar staff know what to do in the event of an evacuation.

  • electrical equipment brought into the hall (e.g. stage lighting and amplifiers) has a current PAT test sticker and / or is plugged into a RCD device.

during the event

  • you remain on the premises at all times

  • you remain alert for hazards

  • you strictly enforce the 'No Smoking indoors' policy

  • you ensure that the hall's maximum capacity of 100 persons is not exceeded

after the event

  • you check all electric appliances are switched off or unplugged

  • you check all rubbish is bagged and binned

in the event of fire

  • you don't put yourself at risk

  • you sound the fire alarm

  • you ensure everyone leaves the building in an orderly manner and assembles on the village green

  • you CALL THE FIRE BRIGADE - there is a public phone box on the village green

  • you ensure no-one re-enters the building

  • you liaise with the Fire Brigade when they arrive
